Asbury's Sparks, WVU Tech's Miller take home Women's Soccer honors
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Asbury (Ky.) University forward Elizabeth Sparks and WVU Tech goalkeeper Jenna Miller have been named River States Conference Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week March 29-April 4.
Sparks, a junior from Mansfield, Ohio, had a big goal in a 1-0 win over IU East to close out the regular season. She was also important on the attack in a 1-0 playoff win at Ohio Christian a few days later. Asbury is headed to the RSC semifinals next.
Miller, a junior from Lake Jackson, Texas, came up big in a 0-0, double-overtime playoff win for WVU Tech over Rio Grande. She made nine saves during the regulation and overtime periods to earn the shutout. Then in PKs, she made a stop and forced all but one other attempt to miss as the Golden Bears advanced, 4-1, and on to the conference semifinals.
