Point Park's Pfluger, Beardsley sweep RSC Baseball weekly awards
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Point Park University outfielder Ed Pfluger and right-hander Nicholas Beardsley took home the River States Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week awards for March 29-April 1.
Pfluger, a junior from Palm Beach, Fla., hit .661 (11 for 18) with six extra-base hits and 10 RBIs in five games. He racked up four doubles and two homers, scored nine runs and was 3 for 3 on stolen bases for the week. Pfluger went 5 for 5 in the middle game versus Ohio Christian to highlight the performance. He was also 4 for 4 with three doubles and five RBIs combined in two games versus Fisher (Mass.).
Beardsley, from Torrance, Calif., pitched 8.0 scoreless innings versus Ohio Christian to claim the honor. He scattered seven hits while striking out eight and walking none in the outing, a 9-0 victory. It is the second conference weekly honor of the year for the veteran senior, who went over the 200-career strikeout milestone in his previous start.
