CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- The 2021 River States Conference Baseball Championship qualifiers and seeds are announced right here at RiverStatesConference.com. The championship is set for May 6-9 at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio. It is the fourth time in a row the conference will have its playoffs at the home of the Chillicothe Paints.
The six-team, double-elimination tournament will have its winner earn an automatic berth to the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round. Already in with an automatic berth as RSC regular season champion is No. 1 seed Indiana University Southeast (40-13, 26-1 RSC). The Grenadiers are ranked No. 18 in the NAIA Top 25, and they ran through the regular season winning 26 of 27 conference games.
The championship gets underway on Thursday, May 6 at 11:00 a.m. with the opening game featuring No. 1 IU Southeast taking on No. 6 Midway (Ky.) University. The Eagles (12-28, 11-16 RSC) won their regular-season finale to punch their playoff ticket and won the 2017 tourney title in Chillicothe.
No. 2 seed Asbury (Ky.) University is 36-10 overall with a school record for wins and took second place with a 21-6 RSC record. The Eagles play the second game of the opening day at 3:00 p.m. versus No. 5 seed University of Rio Grande (Ohio). The RedStorm (19-32, 12-15 RSC) won the championship the last time it was contested in 2019.
No. 3 seed Point Park (Pa.) University took third place at 34-12 overall, 20-7 RSC. The Pioneers play No. 4 Indiana University Kokomo (28-18, 16-10 RSC) to close out the first day at 7:00 p.m. Thursday night. The matchup features the 2018 tournament champion Pioneers and the 2019 runner-up Cougars.
The championship continues with three more games each on Friday and Saturday with start times again scheduled for 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. The championship round begins on Sunday at 11 a.m. with a second championship game if necessary at 3 p.m.
The RSC Game Central presented by Stretch Internet will broadcast live streaming video of all games of the championship. Subscribe for $7.95 per game or $19.99 for the entire tournament. Live stats will be provided on Dakstats.
Admission at VA Memorial Stadium is $7.00 for adults, $3.00 for students with that price gaining entrance for an entire day. No tournament passes will be sold. Fans must wear a face covering if they are unable to social distance or not with their immediate family. Concessions will be available. No outside food, drink or coolers are allowed in the stadium.
