MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Indiana University Southeast senior first baseman Matt Monahan has been selected as 2020-21 River States Conference Male Athlete of the Year. The award is voted on by athletic directors in the conference.

The RSC Male Athlete of the Year is the top athlete in the conference for the year across all eight of the RSC's men's championship sports. Each school is permitted one nominee, and players of the year in each sport are automatically nominated.

Monahan, from New Lenox, Ill., was the RSC Baseball Player of the Year after a fantastic season for the Grenadiers. He led the conference in hits, home runs and total bases per game. At the end of the regular season, he was second in the NAIA with 83 hits and had already put up a 14 home runs, 55 RBIs and a .428 average in 51 games.

An injury kept him out of the postseason as IU Southeast made a run to the RSC Championship and the NAIA World Series. Monahan's big season put the Grenadiers in position as the RSC Regular Season champions at 26-1 RSC for the No. 1 seed and later a No. 2 seed in the NAIA Opening Round.

Monahan was also stellar defensively as the first baseman on the RSC Baseball Gold Glove team. On the national level, he was named NAIA Baseball Honorable Mention All-America.
