MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- River States Conference Commissioner Michael Schell is pleased to announce that George Sliman has been hired as the RSC Eligibility Chair. Sliman officially starts July 1. Sliman is retiring as Director of Athletics at RSC member institution Carlow (Pa.) University after 22 years leading the Celtics' athletic department.

"George has gained significant knowledge and experience over his career," said Schell. "It is great that we will be able to keep him engaged with the River States Conference as he moves to also enjoy retirement."

Sliman moves into the conference role that was held by Dr. Ken Pickerill for more than 20 years. Pickerill, the faculty-athletics representative at Asbury (Ky.) University, retired after 30 years on the faculty.

The RSC Eligibility Chair serves the conference office in matters of eligibility and reviews exceptions to standard rules and also eligibility violations. The role involves staying in contact with the RSC Administrative Council and also with the NAIA.

Sliman began at Carlow as the volleyball head coach in the late 1980s, and he was hired as Director of Athletics in 1999. Sliman was named the NACDA NAIA Northeast Region Athletic Director of the Year in 2011-12. He moved Carlow to the River States Conference in 2012-13. Under Sliman's leadership, the Celtics went from five women's sports and 65 student-athletes to 14 men's and women's sports and over 200 student-athletes.
