Midway (Ky.) takes RSC Women's Golf Fall Preview title

FINAL LEADERBOARD

FLORENCE, Ind. -- Midway (Ky.) University increased its lead and made it a wire-to-wire win at the 2022 River States Conference Women's Golf Fall Preview. The Eagles won the team championship at the two-day tournament featuring eight teams and 36 holes at Belterra Resort.

Midway had the lead after Monday's first round with a team score of 336. The Eagles knocked 15 strokes off of that for Tuesday's final round total of 321 to win going away.

Brescia (Ky.) University made a move on the final day to finish in second place. The Bearcats were in fourth place with an opening 350, but they turned in the second best round of the week -- a 334 on Tuesday -- to move up runner-up in the final standings.

Indiana University East came in third place with its tournament scorecard at 342-349. That was a few shots ahead of fourth-place Indiana University Kokomo, which was similar at 349-344.

St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) and Oakland City (Ind.) were tied for fifth after the first round. But SMWC took solo fifth thanks to a 354 over the final 18 holes. Oakland City was sixth followed by Rio Grande (Ohio) and Point Park (Pa.) to round out the standings.

Brandi Jones from IU Kokomo cameback to win the medalist honors this week. She fired the best round of the tournament -- a 76 in the final round -- to win by one stoke over Bree Russell from Midway. Jones was one of a few players tied for sixth after Monday. She won the tournament with rounds of 82-76. Russell was involved in a tie for second after the first day and shot rounds of 80 and 79.

Midway had two of the top three players and four in the Top 10 with Emilie Hill (80-80) placing third. First-round leader Quirine ter Meulen (78-83) from Rio Grande placed fourth while Annie Gillock (80-82) of IU East was one shot back of that in fifth.

This week's tournament was a preview of the RSC Women's Golf Championship to be held at the same course in April 2023. The individual scores will contribute to the all-conference first and second team selections at the spring championship.
