Campbell named RSC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, Week for Point Park
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Point Park (Pa.) University senior Alyssa Campbell won five medals at the River States Conference Indoor Championships this past weekend to earn RSC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year honors. As a result, she is also the RSC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for Feb. 14-20.
Campbell was the top overall women's performer at the meet and ruled the track with 34.50 total points. She won three individual golds and anchored a couple of relays to gold and silver medals.
Campbell won the mile and 3,000 meters -- two events in which she had already qualified for the NAIA Indoor National Championhip -- and she also added in the 800 meters to try that distance as well. Campbell also ran the last leg of the Pioneers' 4x800 relay to ensure a new meet record. She capped off the night with a leg of the distance medley relay as part of Point Park's silver medal.
Campbell scored 34.50 points in the meet to lead the Pioneers to their fifth conference indoor title in five years of the meet. She moves on to the NAIA National Championship in two events.
