Day 1 Recap: Rio Grande on top after Friday's events at RSC Outdoor T&F Championship

DAY 1 RESULTS

RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- University of Rio Grande (Ohio) leads the 2022 River States Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship after events on Day 1 of the meet on Friday. Rio Grande is the host of the meet, which continues on Saturday when a champion will be crowned.

Rio Grande is on top of the list of 12 schools competing in the meet with 91.25 points. Point Park (Pa.) University is in second place with 72.25 points followed by Midway (Ky.) University in third with 44.00 poiints, Indiana University Kokomo in fourth with 35.00 points and St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) College in fifth with 20.00 points.

Rio Grande built its Friday lead by winning four events on the opening Day. The RedStorm not only won the hammer throw but went 1-2 in the event with Eric Weber and Daniel Everett earning 18 points for the RedStorm.

Rio Grande got 10 points from Spencer Harris winning the high jump. He was also third in the long jump for six more points. The RedStorm placed first in the 4x800 relay coming within one second of the meet record. Rio Grande also had Dean Freitag win the conference title in the 5,000-meter race walk.

Friday's events had five of the eight field events go final and four of the 14 track events go final. The last three field events begin Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with the last 10 track events getting started at 10:30 a.m.
