NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. - Indiana University East won its second straight River States Conference Women's Tennis Championship capturing the 2022 title with a 4-2 victory over Oakland City (Ind.) University on Saturday, April 30. The Red Wolves and Mighty Oaks met in the finals match at Top Seed Tennis Club.
With the victory, IU East (11-8) clinched a spot in the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship scheduled for May 17-21 in Mobile, Ala. No. 2 seed Oakland City ends the season at 6-3.
The Red Wolves got off to the good start by winning the doubles point. Camila Caballero and Linda Marino beat Liz Aristizbal and Norma Padilla Paola 6-1 in the top spot, while Eva Caballero and Amonette Theron took care of Kataryna Kulynych and Isabela Todorovic at No. 2.
In singles, Eva Caballero quickly put the Red Wolves on top 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Kulynych at No. 3.
The Mighty Oaks tied the contest at 2-2 before the Red Wolves were able to win two more singles matches.
At No. 1, Marino survived a tough second set to post a 6-0, 6-4 win over Aristizabel, who was earlier named the RSC Player of the Year.
Moments later, Camila Caballero clinched the championship with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Padilla Pola in the second spot.
