Day 1 Recap: RSC Men's Golf Fall Preview

FLORENCE, Ind. -- Day 1 of the 2022 River States Conference Men's Golf Fall Preview is in the books with the first 18 holes played Monday at Belterra Resort. Midway (Ky.) University shot 311 to take the team lead with Indiana University East (314) and Oakland City (Ind.) University both within five shots of the lead with 18 holes to play.

There are 11 teams battling it out in a preview of the RSC Men's Golf Championship in the spring. Tied for fourth are University of Rio Grande (Ohio) and WVU Tech both with 321 on Monday. 

The final round is Tuesday starting with the first tee times of 8:00 a.m. ET. from No. 1 and No. 10. The leading teams go off of No. 1 starting at 9:00 a.m. Schools are paired in threesomes as they were on Monday as well. Midway's lead was built on putting three players in the 70s, all of which got into the Top 10 individually. Jake Miller from IU East is the individual leader after 18 holes and the only player under par with a 1-under 70. Three players are tied for second at 75 with Bryson Beaver from WVU Tech, Rodrigo Portilla from Rio Grande and Kyle Horner from Oakland City. 

Gage Gregory was Midway's top performer with a 76, which puts him in a tie for fifth with Logan Vernon from St. Mary-of-the-Woods. Along with teammate Miller in first place, IU East also had Austin Shelley in a tie for 10th with a 78. IU East, Oakland City and Rio Grande all have two players in the Top 10 and ties after 18 holes.
