Midway (Ky.) claims RSC Men's Golf Fall Preview
FINAL LEADERBOARD
FLORENCE, Ind. -- Midway (Ky.) University put together a strong round over the final 18 holes Tuesday to pull away for the team title at the 2022 River States Conference Men's Golf Fall Preview. The Eagles held a three-shot lead after the first round on Monday. They proceeded to go way lower on Tuesday enroute to an 18-shot victory over the other 10 teams in attendance at Belterra Resort.
Midway opened up with a 314 over the first 18 holes. The Eagles shot 300 on Tuesday for a total of 611. Indiana University East shot solid rounds of 314 and 315 to remain in second place both days. Oakland City (Ind.) University placed third with scores of 316 and 319 followed by WVU Tech (321-329) in fourth and University of Rio Grande (Ohio) (321-334) in fifth.
Midway claimed the fall preview title for third year in a row. Midway's previous fall titles in 2020 and 2021 were followed up with the first two RSC Championship victories in team history in each of the subsequent spring seasons. The Eagles will try to make that three for three when the conference championship is held at the same course in April 2023.
Jake Miller from IU East was the individual winner at the fall preview. He opened up with a 1-under 70 and carded a 75 in the final round for a two-shot victory at 3-over 145. Bryson Beaver of WVU Tech closed the gap on first-round leader Miller with a 72 in the final round. Beaver took solo second with a two-day total of 147.
Ben Spencer led Midway to the team title by taking third place. He fired a 72 in the final round for a tournament total of 150. Logan Vernon of St. Mary-of-the-Woods shot 76-75 for fourth place.
Drew Wagner from Indiana University Kokomo and Hayes Mason from Midway both shot 73 to climb way up the leaderboard and finish fifth and sixth, respectively. Midway ended up with all five of its players in the Top 12 individual placements to provide the difference.
The scores from this week's fall preview will contribute to the all-conference selections that are made in the spring. When combined with the rounds that are played at the RSC Championship, the RSC First & Second Teams will be determined.
