RSC Men's Soccer Championship qualifiers and seedings announced
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- The 2023 River States Conference Men's Soccer Championship qualifiers and seedings have been announced at RiverStatesConference.com following the conclusion of all RSC regular-season games on Saturday, Oct. 28. The top eight teams in the league qualified for the championship Nov. 4-11 at campus sites around the conference.
WVU Tech claimed the No. 1 seed and leads the playoff bracket, which will get underway Nov. 4 with the quarterfinals. The Golden Bears (11-4-2, 9-0-1 RSC) earned 28 points in the conference and took the top spot thanks to the third tiebreaker of goal differential in conference play.
University of Rio Grande is the No. 2 seed with the RedStorm also totaling 28 points. The RedStorm (12-1-2, 9-0-1 RSC) tied WVU Tech, 0-0, in the head-to-head matchup and gave up four goals in RSC play to match the Golden Bears. WVU Tech had a goal differential of 24 compared to 23 for Rio Grande in the 10 conference games to provide the difference.
WVU Tech will host No. 8 seed IUPUC (8-8-1, 3-6-1 RSC) in the quarterfinals. The Crimson Pride qualified in their first year in the conference and in existence as a program.
Rio Grande hosts No. 7 IU East (5-12-1, 3-6-1 RSC) in its quarterfinal matchup. IU East, which had 10 points along with IUPUC, got the seventh seed with a regular-season win head to head over the Crimson Pride.
No. 3 seed Point Park (Pa.) University (9-5-3, 6-3-1 RSC) will welcome No. 6 Midway (Ky.) University (6-11, 5-5 RSC) in the quarterfinals. The Pioneers had 19 points in conference play, and the Eagles had 15.
No. 4 seed Oakland City (Ind.) University (8-8-1, 6-3-1 RSC) had 19 points like Point Park but lost the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Pioneers with a road defeat. The Mighty Oaks will host No. 5 Shawnee State (Ohio) (6-7-4, 5-3-2 RSC), which amassed 17 points on the year.
The quarterfinal winners will advance to the semifinals on Nov. 8 with the finals set for Nov. 11. The RSC Championship winner will claim the conference's automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship.
