RSC CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- The 2022-23 River States Conference Men's Basketball Championship is set for Feb. 20-28 at campus sites. The 10-team championship was finalized with the completion of the RSC regular season on Saturday, Feb. 18.

No. 1 overall seed University of Rio Grande (Ohio) locked up an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship as the overall leader in the RSC regular-season points system. The RedStorm is "receiving votes" in the NAIA Top 25 and is 23-5 overall, 16-1 RSC. Rio Grande, the RSC East Division champion, will have home-court advantage throughout the conference playoffs and begins with a home quarterfinal game Feb. 22.

IU Kokomo is the other No. 1 seed in the bracket as the RSC West Division champion. The Cougars are also receiving votes nationally and enter the postseason at 21-7 overall, 15-3 RSC. IU Kokomo will await its matchup for the quarterfinals at home Feb. 22.

The RSC Championship starts off with the first round on Feb. 20. That pits the fourth- and fifth-place teams from each division squaring off in a crossover fashion. RSC West No. 4 seed IU East will host RSC East No. 5 seed WVU Tech while RSC East No. 4 seed Ohio Christian will welcome RSC West No. 5 seed Brescia (Ky.).

The IU East-WVU Tech winner will move on to play at No. 1 overall Rio Grande. The winner of Ohio Christian-Brescia will advance to play at No. 1 IU Kokomo.

The quarterfinals on Feb. 22 also feature RSC West No. 2 seed IU Southeast hosting RSC East No. 3 seed Alice Lloyd (Ky.) College and RSC East No. 2 seed Point Park (Pa.) University hosting RSC West No. 3 seed Midway (Ky.) University.

The semifinals are Feb. 25, and the championship final is Feb. 28. The higher seed hosts each game. The championship winner will earn automatic qualification to the NAIA National Championship. If Rio Grande wins the postseason tournament, the tournament runner-up will earn a nationals bid.
