Rio Grande advances to NAIA National Championship as RSC Championship winner and RSC regular-season champion; Midway advances to NAIA nationals as RSC Championship runner-up.

 

CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- The 2022-23 River States Conference Women's Basketball Championship bracket is finalized after the completion of the RSC regular season on Saturday, Feb. 18. The 10-team championship begins Feb. 20 at campus sites for the first round. 

No. 13-ranked University of Rio Grande (Ohio) secured the RSC regular-season title and the overall championship No. 1 seed by finishing off the regular season with a record of 25-3, 16-1 RSC on Saturday. The RedStorm have clinched an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship, and it will begin the playoffs by hosting a quarterfinals game on Feb. 22. Rio Grande won the RSC East Division.

Midway (Ky.) University earned the RSC West Division title with Saturday's win for a record of 21-7 overall, 16-2 RSC. The Eagles are the other No. 1 seed in the RSC bracket, are "receiving votes" in the NAIA Top 25 and will also host a quarterfinal game to begin on Feb. 22. 

The RSC Championship starts off Feb. 20 with the fourth- and fifth-place team from each division playing first-round games in crossover fashion. Point Park (Pa.) University is the No. 4 seed from the RSC East and will host St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) College, the No. 5 seed from the RSC West. IU East is the No. 4 seed from the RSC West and will host No. 5 seed Ohio Christian from the RSC East. 

The Point Park-St. Mary-of-the-Woods winner will advance to play at No. 1 Midway in the quarterfinals. Likewise, the IU East-Ohio Christian winner will move on to play at No. 1 Rio Grande. 

Other quarterfinal matchups Feb. 22 are RSC East No. 2 seed Alice Lloyd (Ky.) College hosting RSC West No. 3 seed IU Southeast and RSC West No. 2 seed Oakland City (Ind.) University welcoming RSC East No. 3 seed WVU Tech. 

The semifinals are Feb. 25, and the championship final is Feb. 28. The higher seed hosts each game. As the No. 1 overall seed, Rio Grande has home court advantage throughout the conference tournament.
