FLORENCE, Ind. -- Midway (Ky.) University is still in first place with 18 holes to play at the 2023 River States Conference Men's Golf Championship. The Eagles shot 320 in Monday's second round and hold a nine-shot lead over second-place Indiana University East heading into the final round on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. ET. The 54-hole championship is being played at Belterra Golf Course in Florence, Ind.
Monday had eight of the 11 teams shoot higher in the second round than they did in Sunday's first round. That included Midway, which had opened with a 308 to lead by five shots over IU East after 18 holes. IU East had a team score of 324 in the second round and is within nine of Midway. IU Kokomo remains in third place and is 15 shots off the lead after a 323 on Monday.
The top three teams tee off No. 1 at 9:00 a.m. for the final round. The first tee times are at 8:00 a.m. on No. 1 and at 8:20 a.m. ET on No. 10.
Oakland City (Ind.) University was one of the three teams to cut its score in round two along with WVU Tech and Point Park (Pa.). The Mighty Oaks made moved up from fifth place to fourth place in the field by shooting 321 on Monday, two shots better than in the first round. Oakland City is 16 shots behind the lead after that steady second round.
Individually, Jake Miller from IU East opened up a six-shot lead with a 1-over 72 in the second round. He was tied for the lead after 18 holes. That was the best round of the day along with Kyle Honer from Oakland City, who moved up to solo second place with a 73 on Monday. Gage Gregory and Hayes Mason give Midway a pair of players tied for third and nine shots off the lead.
