FINAL RESULTS
RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- Point Park (Pa.) University made it back to back outdoor titles by claiming the 2023 River States Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship held Friday-Saturday at Rio Grande (Ohio) and co-hosted by Ohio Christian. The Pioneers won their third RSC outdoor championship to go along wih last year and 2019. They also swept the indoor and outdoor RSC vicotries this year, the third time they've done that.
Point Park racked up 270 points to win by a wide margin. The Pioneers won 12 of the 22 events and swept all four of the individual awards to win the title.
Rio Grande took runner-up honors with 152 points followed by IU East in third with 133. There were 11 teams competing in the men's championship.
Daimere Stephens-Stewart claimed RSC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year. He did so by winning first place and setting RSC championship records in all three events he competed in -- 100 meters, 200 meters and long jump. His long jump qualified him for NAIA nationals.
Collins Eze earned RSC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year. He was all-conference in all three jumps continuing his dominance in the triple jump and also getting second place in the long and high jumps.
Peter Dorando got RSC Men's Track & Field Newcomer of the Year scoring in all five events he competed in and getting all-conference in four of them. He won the high jump and 400-meter hurdles and took third in the 110 hurdles and pole vault. He was also fifth in the long jump.
Point Park head coach Tim Creamer was voted RSC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year for leading the Pioneers to the sweep of the conference men's titles this year. The Point Park men are nationally ranked No. 21 in the country by USTFCCCA.
There were many championship records set over the two day. Stephen-Stewarts records were 10.64 in the 100 meters, 21.60 (tied) in the 200 meters and 7.23 in the long jump. Ramiro Ulunque from Point Park set the 800 meters record at 1:53.11. Daniel Jacobs claimed the record in a very competitive javelin event at 64.94.
Rio Grande had three individuals claim records with Tyler Jenkins in the 1,500 meters (15:14.13), Huntyr Butler in the 110 hurdles (14.56) and Skylar Gries in the pole vault (4.47). Mylan Nocton from IU East posted a record in the 10,000 meters with a time of 32:09.82.
Also named was the RSC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Champions of Character Team. That honored one member of each team who best displays the NAIA fiver character traits of respect, resposibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship.
The RSC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete Team recognized outstanding students with a 3.25+ GPA who have been at their current school for more than two semesters.
The top three finishers in each event and relay earned all-conference honors. The top eight placements in each event earned points for their team. Four entries per school, per event were allowed.
