Oakland City (Ind.) wins first RSC Women's Tennis Championship
EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Oakland City (Ind.) University won its first River States Conference Women's Tennis Championship claiming the 2023 title at the two-day tournament held Friday-Saturday at the Wesselman Tennis Center.
Oakland City was runner-up last year, but the Mighty Oaks came through with the championship this year, their third year as a member of the RSC.
Oakland City came out on top of the six-team bracket. The Mighty Oaks were the No. 1 seed with a 5-0 RSC record in the regular season. After a bye into the semifinals on Friday afternoon, Oakland City defeated No. 4 seed IU Kokomo, 4-0, to march on to the finals on Saturday morning.
No. 2 seed Midway (Ky.) University also advanced to the finals with a 4-0 win over IU East in the other semifinals. In the championship match, Oakland City prevailed, 4-0, over Midway to take the title. For Midway, it was its first appearance in the RSC finals.
The championship started with IU Kokomo defeating IU Southeast, 5-0, and IU East beating Brescia (Ky.), 5-0, in the quarterfinal round.
