MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Dr. Stephen Custer from Oakland City (Ind.) University for the second year in a row has been chosen as the River States Conference Faculty-Athletics Representative of the Year. He was selected for the 2022-23 school year after a vote of member schools.

Custer has completed his 17th year as Associate Professor of Business at Oakland City. In addition to being the Faculty-Athletics Rep for the Mighty Oaks, he is also the public-address announcer at home games for several sports.

Custer received the award for going above and beyond for Mighty Oaks athletics. In addition to being a trusted ally in the certification of NAIA eligibility on campus, he is heavily involved in the department in other areas as well. In the FAR role, he is known for thoroughly checking for accuracy and proper procedures.

Dr. Custer lends his voice to Oakland City athletics as a public-address announcer for home volleyball, men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball games as well. He is involved in many committees around campus and was named the university's "Teacher of the Year" in 2020-21.

The RSC Faculty-Athletics Representative of the Year award was established in 2016-17. Its purpose is to recognize one FAR within the conference each year for outstanding service and dedication to the role with an RSC and NAIA athletic department and campus.

The FAR is a member of the faculty who works with the athletic department to certify the eligibility of all student-athletes at that institution before they can represent the school in competition. The FAR cannot be a coach or an athletics administrator and is well versed in the rules and regulations of the NAIA.
