River States Players of the Week - Oct. 21-27

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - The River States Conference is pleased to announce the Player of the Week honorees for the past week.

All awards represent contests played from Monday, October 21 through Sunday, October 27.

Men's Soccer Players of the Week

Defensive Player of the Week
Eric Green, Shawnee State | Sr. - Goalkeeper - Wheelersburg, Ohio
Green was terrific defensively for the Bears, making saves on all five attempts that he faced including four in the second half. The senior stopped shots in the 24th, 56th and 70th minutes against Indiana-Columbus, then made two saves over the final 25 minutes of play against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods in two 1-0 victories.

Offensive Player of the Week
Vasco Berardo, WVU Tech | So. - Forward - Lisboa, Portugal
Berardo scored in both WVU Tech matches this week, including a key conference victory over Brescia. The Portuguese sophomoew scored on one goal and assisted on another against Georgia Gwinnett in non-conference action, then added another goal in a 6-0 win over Brescia on Saturday.

Women's Soccer Players of the Week

Defensive Player of the Week
Harlee Brand, Shawnee State | Fr. - Goalkeeper - Winchester, Ohio
Brand led a terrific defensive effort by the Bears in both contests, notching her first two career clean sheets in a 2-0 victory over Indiana-Columbus and a 0-0 tie against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. Brand made seven saves in Shawnee State's latter match against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods and has saved 32 out of the last 36 shots that she's faced in the process, helping SSU go 3-2-1 since Oct. 3.

Offensive Player of the Week
Haylee Applegate, Midway | Jr. - Forward - Flemingsburg, Kentucky
Applegate led Midway to a non-conference victory over Freed-Hardeman Saturday, scoring both goals in a 2-0 victory. Applegate peppered the goalkeeper in the victory, launching 12 total shots and putting six of those shots on target.

Women's Volleyball Players of the Week

Attacker of the Week
Callie Mason, Brescia | Fr. - Outside Hitter - Galesburg, Illinois
Mason took on a starring role for the Bearcats, racking up 47 kills in three conference matches on the week. The freshman had her best game against St. Mary-of-the-Woods, racking up 20 kills. She also posted a double-double in the week's finale against Shawnee State, finishing with 14 kills and ten digs in just three sets.

Setter of the Week
Makaela Lovely, Shawnee State | Jr. - Setter - Frankfort, Ohio
Lovely posted terrific numbers in two River States Conference victories this past week, setting a career-high with 49 assists and adding in 15 digs for the junior's fourth double-double of the year in a 3-1 victory over Oakland City and adding in 32 assists and 7 digs in a 3-0 win over Brescia Friday and Saturday. Lovely averaged 40.5 assists per match between the two victories and now owns three double-doubles over SSU's last four matches as the junior has clearly established herself as the Bears' lead setter.

Defender of the Week
Jocelyn Chavez, St. Mary-of-the-Woods | Sr. - Libero - Phoenix, Arizona
Chavez led SMWC to a 2-1 finish on the week as she recorded 34 digs in the win over West Virginia Tech -- an average of 6.80 digs per set. The Arizona native had 71 digs over the three-game stretch -- an average of 5.07 digs per set over the week, and added 20 assists from the back line.

Golf Players of the Week

Male Player of the Week
Colby Beckwith, St. Mary-of-the-Woods | Sr. - Spencer, Indiana
Beckwith earned a second place finish at the 18-hole Hornet Fall Invitational, hosted by Kalamazoo College. The senior shot a three-over score of 74, finishing one shot behind the leader. Beckwith led the Pomeroys to a tie for second place as a team, finishing just one stroke away from claiming the team title.

Cross Country Runners of the Week

Male Runner of the Week
Mylan Nocton, IU East | Jr. - Centerville, Indiana
Nocton led IU East at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge, hosted by Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The junior was the top River States Conference finisher in either division, placing eighth overall in the Maroon Division with a time of 24:28.30. IU East finished in the top half of the Maroon Division, placing eighth in a field of 22 teams.

Female Runner of the Week
Cassandra Schrubb, IU East | Jr. - Piqua, Ohio
Schrubb was the top River States finisher in either division of the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge in Grand Rapids. The junior finished in the top 20 of the Maroon Division, crossing the finish line at 18:19.40 on the 5k course. IU East was the lone RSC program to compete in the Maroon Division with some of the top teams in the nation.
