River States Players of the Week - Sept. 30-Oct. 6

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - The River States Conference is pleased to announce the Player of the Week honorees for the past week.

All awards represent contests played from Monday, September 30 through Sunday, October 6.

Men's Soccer Players of the Week

Defensive Player of the Week
Eric Green, Shawnee State | Sr. - Goalkeeper - Wheelersburg, Ohio
Green did a terrific job in goal throughout the course of the week, making eight second half saves of the nine stops that the senior had over the course of the week. Following a four-save outing that was capped off by a beautiful and well-timed 82nd-minute save of a Tristan Thomas shot that Green stopped by batting the well-placed shot just above and past the crossbar in a 4-0 win over Indiana-East, Green stopped all five shots that he faced in the second half, including a critical 88th minute save to preserve a 1-1 tie at Oakland City.

Offensive Player of the Week
Marc Hernandez, WVU Tech | So. - Forward - Argentona, Spain
Hernandez led the way for the Golden Bears, who remained unbeaten in River States play with a 7-0 victory over IU East on Saturday. Hernandez logged a hat trick in the victory, scoring in the seventh, 18th, and 60th minutes. With his fifth goal of the season, Hernandez became the fourth Golden Bear to record ten points this season.

Women's Soccer Players of the Week

Defensive Player of the Week
Alba Vilades Marin, Rio Grande| Sr. - Goalkeeper - Barcelona, Spain 
Vilades Marin made it back-to-back conference honors by posting two shutouts to keep the RedStorm undefeated in River States play. She started the week with a two-save shutout against St. Mary-of-the-Woods , then was sensational in making five saves to shutout Brescia in a 1-0 victory on Saturday.

Offensive Player of the Week
Jitske De Muijnk, Rio Grande | Jr. - Midfielder - Nymegen, Netherlands
De Muijnk scored in both of Rio Grande's matches on the week, netting the RedStorm a pair of River States Conference victories. The junior scored the third of four Rio Grande goals in a 4-0 win over St. Mary-of-the-Woods on Thursday, then added her biggest goal of the week - the only tally in a 1-0 win over Brescia on Saturday.

Women's Volleyball Players of the Week

Attacker of the Week
Lexi Broyles, IU Kokomo | Jr. - Middle Hitter - DeMotte, Indiana
Lexi Broyles was impressive in all three IU Kokomo sweeps last week, totaling 27 kills and an astounding .571 hitting percentage for the week. Broyles did not hit below .533 in any of the three matches, while also totaling six blocks and seven digs as a middle.

Setter of the Week
Cheaney Archer, Brescia | Jr. - Setter - Shoals, Indiana
Archer led the Bearcats in a three-match week, logging 102 assists and 30 digs in matches against IU Southeast, IU Kokomo and IU Columbus. Her best performance came against the Crimson Pride on Saturday, recording a career-high 50 assists to help the Bearcats to a dramatic five-set victory.

Defender of the Week
Ella Bickel, IU East | Jr. - Defensive Specialist - Fort Wayne, Indiana
After an 0-2 start, the IU East Red Wolves have won four straight RSC matches, with Bickel leading the way on the back line. Ella tallied 6.38 digs per set in the two wins this week for the Red Wolves, as IU East beat both Rio Grande and WVU Tech in four sets. Bickel had 26 digs in the win over Rio Grande, the RSC Match of the Week.

Golf Players of the Week

Male Player of the Week
Hayes Mason, Midway | Sr. - Campbellsville, Kentucky
Four golfers arrived at their final hole within one shot of the lead, including three golfers that were finishing on the traditional 18th hole. Of the three golfers with a share of the lead, a pair of Midway Eagles - Hayes Mason and Jack Bedell - both birdied the 18th, forcing a playoff. On the playoff hole, with both golfers back on the 18th, Mason drilled an eagle putt to win the tournament.

Female Player of the Week
Liv Sanders, IU East | Sr. - Bedford, Indiana
Sanders was IU East's top player as the Red Wolves competed at Battle at Stonehenge, hosted by Grace College. Sanders shot a 74 and a 76 at the 36 hole event, and helped the Red Wolves to a school record round of 303 in the final round.

Cross Country Runners of the Week

Male Runner of the Week
Duncan Kogei, Rio Grande | Fr. - Eldoret, Kenya
Rio Grande competed in the Gold Division of the Live in Louisville Classic, and finished in the middle of the pack as one of only three NAIA teams in the division. Kogei was Rio Grande's top finisher, as well as the top finisher from any NAIA Gold school,  topping teammate Tyler Jenkins by one second.

Female Runner of the Week
Cassandra Schrubb, IU East | Jr. - Piqua, Ohio
Schrubb was one of the best runners in the Silver Division field at the Live in Louisville Classic, finishing second in her division in a field of 208 runners. Her time of 18:45.1 on the 5k course was a new Indiana University East school record.
