River States Players of the Week - Oct. 28-Nov. 3

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - The River States Conference is pleased to announce the Player of the Week honorees for the past week.

All awards represent contests played from Monday, October 28 through Sunday, November 3, except for the honorees in basketball. Basketball awards represent contests played from the first date of competition through November 3.

Men's Soccer Players of the Week

Defensive Player of the Week
Matheus de Campos, Rio Grande | Sr. - Goalkeeper - Brasilia, Brazil
Even with Rio Grande pulling away from Oakland City in the defacto RSC regular season championship game, de Campos did his part on the other end of the field. The senior stopped all three shots that came his way, earning a clean sheet in the RedStorm's 5-0 win over the Mighty Oaks.

Offensive Player of the Week
Rafael Kawata, Rio Grande | So. - Midfielder - Sao Paulo, Brazil
In a game that determined the RSC's regular season title, Kawata was the best player on the field. The sophomore scored two goals and assisted on a third, carrying the RedStorm to a 5-0 win over Oakland City. Kawata scored the first goal of the afternoon, getting credit for the game-winner in the final RSC Match of the Week.

Women's Soccer Players of the Week

Defensive Player of the Week
Sandra Garcia Quilez, WVU Tech | Jr. - Goalkeeper - Zaragoza, Spain
Garcia Quilez played a major role in getting the Golden Bears a home match in the RSC Tournament on Wednesday. The Spanish goalkeeper stopped all seven shots on goal on Saturday, leading WVU Tech to a 1-0 win over the Pomeroys of St. Mary-of-the-Woods and earning the fourth seed for the Golden Bears.

Offensive Player of the Week
Macey Woolcock, Oakland City | Jr. - Forward - Essex, England
After the Mighty Oaks clinched the RSC regular season title on Halloween night, Woolcock led the way in a statement victory over Rio Grande on Saturday. The junior scored once and assisted on two goals, aiding in three of Oakland City's four goals in a 4-2 win over the RedStorm, finishing an undefeated regular season.

Women's Volleyball Players of the Week

Attacker of the Week
Jessica Swimm, IU East | Sr. - Pin - Hagerstown, Indiana
IU East swept the weekend with wins over Alice Lloyd and Shawnee State, and Swimm logged a double-double in both matches, a pair of sweeps for the Red Wolves. The senior put up 17 kills and 13 digs in Friday's win over the Eagles, then added 14 kills and 14 digs against the Bears on Saturday.

Setter of the Week
Elle McLoughlin, Rio Grande | Jr. - Setter - Zanesville, Ohio
The perennial winner in this category was at it again this week, running Rio Grande's offense to perfection in a trio of wins. The junior racked up 121 assists across ten sets, averaging more than 12 per set. She also added 21 digs, seven kills, and four blocks in Rio Grande wins over Shawnee State, Alice Lloyd, and Georgetown.

Defender of the Week
Isabel Hansen, St. Mary-of-the-Woods | Sr. - Middle Hitter - Tucson, Arizona
Isabel Hansen recorded 11 total blocks, including seven block solos in the pair of sweeps over Oakland City and IU-Columbus. At Oakland City, Hansen had seven total blocks while she recorded four block solos in the win over IU-Columbus. She added seven kills with a .556 attack percentage in the win over IU-Columbus to score 11 points while she added three kills at Oakland City.

Golf Players of the Week

Male Player of the Week
Hayes Mason, Midway | Sr. - Campbellsville, Kentucky
Mason led the Eagles to a team runner-up finish at the Firehawk Invitational, which featured four schools ranked in the nation's top 50. The RSC Fall Preview medalist finished in the top five overall, shooting a one-under 71 in the second round to rise 13 spots on the leaderboard and finish at three over for the tournament.

Female Player of the Week
Maryssa Phillips, Midway | So. - Lexington, Kentucky
Phillips was Midway's top player at the FireHawk Invitational, hosted by UT Southern. The sophomore finished seventh overall in Athens, and helped the Eagles to a co-runner up finish in a field that featured four of the top 50 teams in the nation and three of the top 25.

Men's Basketball Players of the Week

Defensive Player of the Week
Shon Tupuola, St. Mary-of-the-Woods | So. - Center - Brownsburg, Indiana
Despite a pair of losses, the RSC Preseason All-Conference selection was a force around the net for the Pomeroys. The center averaged 15.5 points and 15.5 rebounds per game against Trinity Christian and IU-Northwest. Tupuola added four blocked shots, including three in the double overtime game against Trinity Christian.

Offensive Player of the Week
Amari Wales, Midway | Jr. - Guard - Owensboro, Kentucky
Wales' first game as a Midway Eagle was a historic one, as the freshman scored 35 points on just 15 shots in a 101-98 victory over Cincinnati Clermont. The guard made 12 of his 15 field goal attempts, as well as three of his five three-point attempts, and set a Midway record for the most points ever scored in a school debut.

Women's Basketball Players of the Week

Defensive Player of the Week
A'Lyrica Hughes, Midway | Fr. - Guard - Owensboro, Kentucky
In her first weekend of college basketball, Hughes had an outstanding opening week on both ends, but was particularly great defensively, recording seven steals against Kentucky Christian. The freshman guard been the driving force of a defense that forced 56 turnovers in its first two games.

Offensive Player of the Week
Kaylee Darnell, Rio Grande | Sr. - Guard - Wheelersburg, Ohio
The Preseason All-RSC honoree showed why in Rio Grande's first two games of the 2024-25 season, both wins. The senior guard scored 25 points in a blowout win over Lawrence Tech on Friday, then added 22 more in a three-point win over Siena Heights on Saturday. Darnell shot 53.8 percent from the field for the weekend.
