River States Players of the Week - Dec. 9-15

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - The River States Conference is pleased to announce the Player of the Week honorees for the past week.

All awards represent contests played from Monday, December 9 through Sunday, December 15.

Men's Basketball Players of the Week

Defensive Player of the Week
Jaylin Fox, Rio Grande | Jr. - Guard - South Haven, Michigan
Fox hit the glass hard in Rio Grande's two games this week, grabbing 17 rebounds in contests with Midway and Montreat. Fox logged a double-double in Rio Grande's conference win over Midway, finishing with 12 points and ten rebounds. The junior from Michigan then added eight points and seven rebounds on Friday against Montreat. Fox also added seven blocks and four steals on the week. 

Offensive Player of the Week
Damian Garcia, Brescia | Jr. - Guard - Houston, Texas
Garcia had a massive game to lead Brescia to a win on Thursday over Bethel, handing the Wildcats their second loss of the season. The junior guard scored 32 points on 60 percent shooting, adding five rebounds and four assists in a 93-81 victory. Garcia knocked down three three-pointers and made nine of his 12 two-point attempts for the Bearcats, all while never turning the ball over.

Women's Basketball Players of the Week

Defensive Player of the Week
Cianna Gloster, Shawnee State | Sr. - Forward - Flint, Michigan
In each of Shawnee State's three contests this past week, Cianna Gloster was terrific -- averaging 14.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and 4.3 steals per outing. Gloster went a season-best 6-of-7 from the field, went 6-of-8 from the free throw line, and notched a game-high six steals in Shawnee State's 59-50 win over NCAA Division II Cedarville. The senior forward then amassed double-doubles on back-to-back nights against Lindsey Wilson and No. 3 Campbellsville.

Offensive Player of the Week
Kaylee Darnell, Rio Grande | Sr. - Guard - Wheelersburg, Ohio
Darnell did a little bit of everything in leading No. 8 Rio Grande to a road win over Midway in RSC season opener. The senior guard scored 29 points in the 86-74 victory, adding five rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block. Through nine games this season, Darnell has scored 25.9 points per game, ranking first in the River States Conference and third in the nation.
