Point Park wins 4th straight RSC Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship title

LOGAN, Ohio -- Point Park (Pa.) University won its fourth straight River States Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday, Feb. 17 from the Chieftain Center in Logan, Ohio. The Pioneers won for the sixth time in the seven years since the conference indoor championship was first established in 2018.
Point Park amassed 224 points to best the field of 11 schools. University of Rio Grande (Ohio) was runner-up with 110 points with Indiana University Kokomo close behind in third with 105 points.
Point Park had many of the individual awards led by Akeem Mustapha, a freshman sprinter and jumper who was named RSC Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year and RSC Men's & Women's Indoor Newcomer of the Year. he led all men's competitors with 35 points scored, 28 of which came in the field. He won the high jump and long jump, placed second in the triple jump to a teammate, placed third in the 60-meter dash and eighth in the 200 meters. His mark of 7.34 meters n the long jump was a championship meet record.
Aiden Kammler from Shawnee State (Ohio) University earned RSC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. He set RSC records in both of the individual events that he raced -- the mile and 3,000 meters. He also anchored the Bears' winning distance medley relay squad. Kammler won the mile at 4:17.18 and the 3,000 with a time of 8:42.28.
Point Park head coach Tim Creamer was named RSC Men's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year. The Pioneers won nine of the 20 events and placed numerous all-conference performers on the podium throughout the day.
The top three finishers in each event and relay were named All-RSC with gold, silver and bronze medals. The top eight finishers in each event scored points for their team. Four entries were allowed in each event per team with all four able to be scored.
There were eight men's meet records set and one meet record tied. Joining Mustapha with his long-jump record from Point Park were Elijah James breaking his own record in the 600 meters (1:23.18), Jannik Windelband in the 1,000 meters (2:32.66) and Kanye Mills tied the record in the 60 meter hurdles (8.23)
Kammler's two records in the mile (4:17.18) and 3,000 meters (8:42.28) gave those to Shawnee State along with teammate Justin Moore setting a record in the weight throw (16.72).
Jacob Kocis from Midway (Ky.) set a record in the 5,000 meters (15:00.49), and the Rio Grande 4x800 relay team had a record of 7:58.42.
Also named was the RSC Men's Champions of Character Team with one honoree from each school who best represents the NAIA Champions of Character values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship.
