CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- The 2023-24 River States Conference Men's Basketball Championship is set with 10 teams battling it out at campus sites from Feb. 26-March 5. The winner will earn automatic qualification to the NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship the following week.
The top five teams from each of the RSC East and West Divisions qualified for the championship. The championship qualifiers and seedings were determined by the RSC points system, a weighted average of wins and losses based on home and away and strength of opponent. The points system seeds the teams 1-10 regardless of division.
Point Park (Pa.) University is the No. 1 overall seed as the RSC points leader and the RSC regular-season champion. With that, the Pioneers (26-2, 15-2 RSC) have earned automatic qualfiication to the NAIA National Championship. Point Park also won the RSC East Division.
St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) College is the No. 2 seed and the RSC West Division champion. The Pomeroys are are 23-5 overall, 17-1 RSC.
The RSC Championship begins with two first-round games on Monday, Feb. 26. No. 8 University of Rio Grande (Ohio) (12-16, 6-11 RSC) hosts No. 9 IU East (11-17, 7-11 RSC) with the winner advancing to play at No. 1 Point Park in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
The other first-round game is No. 7 IU Southeast (13-14, 8-10 RSC) hosting No. 10 Midway (Ky) University (8-16, 6-12 RSC). The winner there will move on to play at No. 2 St. Mary-of-the-Woods in the quarterfinals Feb. 28.
No. 3 seed Shawnee State (Ohio) University (19-8, 13-4 RSC) earned a home quarterfinal game hosting No. 6 Ohio Christian University (13-15, 8-9 RSC) on Feb. 28.
No. 4 seed WVU Tech (17-9, 10-7 RSC) made it three of the top four seeds coming from the RSC East Division and hosts No. 5 IU Kokomo (21-7, 11-7 RSC) in the quarterfinals.
The semifinals are March 2, and the finals are March 5 with the higher seed hosting each matchup throughout the championship.
