RSC Baseball Championship Opening Round coming up April 25-27 at campus sites
The River States Conference Baseball Championship Opening Round is coming up this weekend April 25-27 at campus sites around the league. All 12 teams in the conference will be in action with eight of them playing for their right to advance to the championship final site next week in Chillicothe, Ohio.
The top two teams in each of the RSC East & West Divisions have already secured their spots next week in Chillicothe. The other four teams at the RSC Baseball Championship final site will be determined by this weekend's opening round.
The RSC Baseball Opening Round series matchups are the best of three games with the final game if necessary. All games are scheduled for nine innings. The division winners and division runner-ups will meet each other with the third-place teams hosting the sixth-place teams and the fourth-place teams hosting the fifth-place teams in a crossover format.
IU Southeast (29-15) won the RSC West Division and will host Point Park (34-12), the RSC East Division champ. IU Southeast won the right to host at 20-4 RSC with Point Park 19-5 RSC. The winner of that series will be the No. 1 overall seed at the final site.
IU Kokomo (30-17) will host fellow second-place team Shawnee State (Ohio) (23-19) with its 18-6 RSC record beating out the Bears' 17-7 RSC mark for the right to play at home.
Oakland City (Ind.) (36-14) as the third-place team from the RSC West hosts Alice Lloyd (Ky.) (17-31), the sixth-place team from the RSC East.
WVU Tech (25-20) placed third in the RSC East and hosts IU Columbus (10-40) from the RSC West.
Midway (Ky.) (21-23) came in third in the RSC West and thus welcomes Ohio Christian (11-29) from the RSC East
Rio Grande (Ohio) (18-28) hosts as the fourth-place team from RSC East with the opponent being Brescia (Ky.) (12-32) from the west.
The RSC's automatic bids for the NAIA Baseball National Championship will be awarded at the RSC Baseball Championship site. The winners of each of the four-team pods in the final bracket will qualify for nationals. The seedings and groupings of the pods will be determined in the opening round.
