River States Players of the Week - August 19-25

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - The River States Conference is pleased to announce the Player of the Week honorees for the past week.

The awards in men's and women's soccer represent games played from the first allowable date of competition, August 15, through Sunday, August 25. The awards in women's volleyball represent games played from Monday, August 19 through Sunday, August 25.

Men's Soccer Players of the Week

Defensive Player of the Week
Peter Lamprou, Indiana East | Sr. - Goalkeeper - Lagyna, Greece
Lamprou stopped all four shots on goal from the Taylor Trojans on Saturday, posting a shutout to lead the Red Wolves to a 3-0 victory in their season opener.

Offensive Player of the Week
Pablo Herrero, Oakland City | Sr. - Forward - Murcia, Spain
Herrero led the way in Oakland City's Tuesday victory over Cleary, scoring both of the Mighty Oaks' goals in a 2-0 win. The Spanish native scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 62nd minute, then added an insurance goal just over ten minutes later.

Women's Soccer Players of the Week

Defensive Player of the Week
Ashby Greenwell, Brescia | Jr. - Goalkeeper - Henderson, Kentucky
The senior held Grace College to just one goal this past week with 10 saves. The defense couldn't get the ball away in the final minute against Trinity Christian as the late goal sealed the loss for Greenwell.

Offensive Player of the Week
Kelsi Hoot, IU Kokomo | Sr. - Attacking Midfielder - Churubusco, Indiana
Kelsi scored the first two IU Kokomo goals of the season Saturday in the squad's shut-out win over Freed-Hardeman. She led the team in shots on the season-opening road trip, and cashed in on her opportunities Saturday to lead the team in points with four.


Volleyball Players of the Week

Attacker of the Week
Jessica Swimm, Indiana East | Sr. - Outside Hitter - Hagerstown, Indiana
Swimm tallied 4.4 kills per set as the Red Wolves went 3-1 in the Onset Tournament. She had a total of 66 kills, 44 digs and five blocks. The senior had at least 12 kills in all three matches, including a season-high 26 in the week's finale against Marian.

Setter of the Week
Elle McLoughlin, Rio Grande | Fr. - Setter - Zanesville, Ohio
McLaughlin led the RedStorm in assists in Rio Grande's four matches this week, and did a little of everything to help fuel three wins at Milligan. The Zanesville native racked up 159 assists across 17 sets played, and added 44 digs and 13 kills.

Defender of the Week
Jocelyn Chavez, St. Mary-of-the-Woods | Sr. - Libero - Phoenix, Arizona
Jocelyn Chavez set a new program record with 38 digs in a single match and is tied for first in the nation in digs per set with a minimum of two matches played.
