River States Players of the Week - Sept. 23-29

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - The River States Conference is pleased to announce the Player of the Week honorees for the past week.

All awards represent contests played from Monday, September 23 through Sunday, September 29.

Men's Soccer Players of the Week

Defensive Player of the Week
Matheus de Campos, Rio Grande | Sr. - Goalkeeper - Brasilia, Brazil
de Campos ensured Rio Grande would be victorious in the first edition of the RSC Match of the Week, posting a shutout in the RedStorm's 2-0 win over Shawnee State. The Brazilian goalkeeper made six saves in the victory. 

Offensive Player of the Week
Christian Piewe, WVU Tech | Jr. - Striker - Bradford, Canada
Piewe helped the Golden Bears jump out to a 2-0 record in River States play, thanks to wins over IU Columbus and Midway. The Canadian junior had a career effort in the 8-1 win over the Crimson Pride, logging a hat trick with goals in the 22nd, 45th, and 69th minutes.

Women's Soccer Players of the Week

Defensive Player of the Week
Alba Vilades Marin, Rio Grande| Sr. - Goalkeeper - Barcelona, Spain 
Vilades Marin came up big in the RSC Match of the Week, pitching a shutout for the RedStorm against IU Kokomo with four saves. The Spanish goalkeeper then ensured a RedStorm win on Saturday, making two saves from point blank range to help keep Rio Grande ahead in a 4-1 victory over Shawnee State.

Offensive Player of the Week
Stheisy Lemus, WVU Tech | Jr. - Forward - Bilbao, Spain
Lemus made an impact in both of WVU Tech's matches last week, scoring two goals and assisting on another. The Spanish junior scored what proved to be the game-winner against IU Columbus on Wednesday, finding the back of the net in the 61st minute. She then scored once and assisted once in a 2-2 draw with Midway on Saturday, scoring the game-tying goal in the 86th minute.

Women's Volleyball Players of the Week

Attacker of the Week
Aubry Koester, Midway | Sr. - Right Side Hitter - Apple Valley, California
Koester has been the most consistent player on the Midway roster this season, leading the Eagles in both kills and digs. Koester racked up 44 kills in three matches this week, including 18 in a five-set win over WVU Tech on Saturday. She posted a double-double in the win over the Golden Bears, adding 16 digs to her attack effort.

Setter of the Week
Elle McLoughlin, Rio Grande | Jr. - Setter - Zanesville, Ohio
McLoughlin continues to add to her resume, earning another Setter of the Week accolade. The junior ran the RedStorm offense efficiently in a conference win over Shawnee State, logging 36 assists over three sets as Rio Grande moved to 4-0 in RSC play.

Defender of the Week
Callie Mason, Brescia | Fr. - Outside Hitter - Galesburg, Illinois
In her first season of college volleyball, Mason has been effective at the net and on defense. The Galesburg, Illinois native racked up 25 digs in a four-set victory over Oakland City, and also proved to be a force at the net with 12 kills and five total blocks.

Golf Players of the Week

Male Player of the Week
Robert Peiró Llobell, WVU Tech | Fr. - Gandia, Valencia, Spain
At the Roger Merb Invitational hosted by Shawnee State, Peiró Llobell was the individual medalist, shooting an even par score over 36 holes. The Spaniard shot a 73 in his first 18, then added a one-under 71 in the nightcap to win the tournament by four strokes.

Female Player of the Week
Kasey Cameron, Midway | Fr. - Richmond, Kentucky
Kasey Cameron was the individual medalist at the RSC Women's Golf Fall Preview, winning the title by two strokes and helping Midway to the team title. Cameron shot a 73 in the first 18 holes of the tournament, then held off a charging field to win by two strokes in the final nine holes of play.
