River States Players of the Week - Oct. 6-12, 2025

OXFORD, Ohio - The River States Conference is pleased to announce the Player of the Week honorees for the past week.

All awards represent contests played from Monday, October 5 through Sunday, October 12.

Women's Volleyball Players of the Week

Attacker of the Week
Karla Melendez, St. Mary-of-the-Woods | Jr. - Outside Hitter - Caguas, Puerto Rico
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods outside hitter Karla Melendez put together a dominant three-match stretch to power the Pomeroys to an unbeaten week (3-0), averaging 4.67 kills per set with a blistering .416 hitting percentage. She averaged 5.9 points per set, proving herself as a reliable six-rotation force.

Setter of the Week
Aden Britt, St. Mary-of-the-Woods | Sr. - Setter - Pflugerville, Texas
Aden Britt orchestrated the Pomeroys' offense to perfection in a 2-0 weekend sweep, averaging 11.17 assists per set while also contributing as an all-around threat. She also posted a .300 hitting percentage and averaged 2.7 points per set, proving to be a steady six-rotation leader.

Defender of the Week
Ella Bickel, IU East | Sr. - Defensive Specialist - Fort Wayne, Indiana
Ella Bickel was massive this weekend with 75 digs for the Red Wolves, including 50 in the win over IU Columbus. The 50 digs are a school record. She added another 25 digs in three sets against IU Southeast, and finished the week with 9.38 digs per set.

Men's Soccer Players of the Week

Offensive Player of the Week
Julen Recalde, WVU Tech | Fr. - Forward - San Sebastian, Spain
Recalde powered the Golden Bears' attack with four goals in two matches, including a dominant hat trick at Oakland City. The freshman striker set the tone early in both wins, finishing the week with a .500 shot percentage and two game-opening goals.

Defensive Player of the Week
Ramon Ferrari, WVU Tech | Jr. - Goalkeeper - Espírito Santo, Brazil
Ferrari delivered a strong performance between the posts, recording a clean sheet and four saves in the 5-0 win at Brescia on Thursday. His steady play anchored the back line and helped the Golden Bears keep their unbeaten streak alive.

Offensive Player of the Week
Lexi Conkel, Shawnee State | Fr. - Forward. - Minford, Ohio
Conkel, a prolific goal-scorer in high school who is the all-time leading goal scorer in Scioto County history with 147 career goals, scored the first three goals of her college career in rapid succession Saturday to obtain her first career hat trick in a 8-0 victory over Kentucky Christian Saturday evening.

Defensive Player of the Week
Sandra Garcia Quilez, WVU Tech | Sr. - Goalkeeper - Zaragoza, Spain
Sandra anchored the backline through two tough road conference matches, including five saves in each contest. She kept Oakland City off the board for 88 minutes and helped preserve a crucial point in the standings, keeping the Golden Bears in first place.

Cross Country Runners of the Week

Male Runner of the Week
Karter Jackson, IU Kokomo | Fr. - Clinton, Indiana
Jackson was the second fastest freshman in the Ray Bullock Invitational, hosted by Taylor University. He placed in the top 25 overall with an 8k time of 26:20.9. Jackson's efforts helped the Cougars to a fifth place finish in the event, which featured 12 teams.

Female Runner of the Week
Leslie Sprankles, IU Kokomo | Sr. - Bluffton, Indiana
Senior Leslie Sprankles led the way for the Cougars at the Ray Bullock Invitational with a personal best of 23:31.42, finishing 22nd overall. Her time ranks as the fourth fastest in program history, and she now stands as the fourth fastest performer in school history.

Golfers of the Week

Male Golfer of the Week
Noah Mulford, IU East | Fr. - Powell, Ohio
Noah Mulford helped the Red Wolves finish fifth overall in the Music City Collegiate. Mulford fired a 6-under in the two day tournament, finishing second in a field of 100 golfers. He shot a 70 in the first round, and followed it up with a 68 in the final round.

Female Golfer of the Week
Emma Rowland, IU Southeast | Fr. - Corydon, Indiana
Emma Rowland claimed individual medalist honors at the RSC Fall Preview. Rowland made three birdies during Monday's first round, and concluded play on Monday with an even-par score and a three-shot lead. The freshman from Corydon, Indiana came up big down the stretch, making a birdie on the 16th hole and pars on 17 and 18.
