"I thought we started the game with energy and were focused on the scout," IU Southeast interim head coach Derek Sims said. "We got away from it and couldn't get stops on defense. That carried over to the second quarter. It didn't help that we shot poorly. I was fairly animated in the locker room at halftime. Started slow in the third but our defense stayed solid. Linzie, Jesse and Karly really stepped up on offense. Karly did things that do not show up on the stat sheet. Especially in the fourth. Taylor did a nice job of finding ways to get them the ball. I always preach how you have to find ways to impact the game when your offense isn't there. She did that. Ella came in and gave us some gritty minutes. Overall, I'm proud of how we fought. We fought through adversity the entire game but didn't give up! We have to be better Saturday against a really good Midway team. But as far as tonight, it's always good to get a conference win in this league."
Linzie Wernert recorded another double-double for IU Southeast with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Jesse Ledgerwood had 20 points off the bench. Lexi Starr had 12 points, four rebounds, and three steals. Makenna Wilson had six points, and Ella Brown had five. Taylor Treat had four points, a team-high 11 assists, and a team-high four steals.
