MARIETTA, Ohio - Distance dominance has the University of Rio Grande on the top of the River States Conference in women's track and field.

The RedStorm scored 94 of their 178 points in distance events, and claimed the 2025 RSC Indoor Track & Field Championship on the campus of Marietta College on Saturday. Each of Rio Grande's eight individual gold medals came in track events of 400 meters or longer, with six coming in distances of 800 meters or longer. Indiana University Kokomo finished in second place with 126 points, with Brescia University rounding out the top three with 109 points. Rio Grande head coach Matt Paxton was named women's Coach of the Year, sweeping the coaching awards for 2025.

The RedStorm relied on two athletes heavily, with both winning three gold medals and emerging with conference hardware. Amarissa Kerns was named RSC Track Athlete of the Year, winning the mile, 3000 meter, and 5000 meter races. Her teammate, Laura Hamm, also won three gold medals to pick up Newcomer of the Year honors, an award she also won the during the cross country season. Hamm won the 600, 800, and 1000 meter events during her first trip to the RSC Championships.

The most decorated athlete, in either gender, at the Championships was Brescia's Jordyn Cardwell, the RSC Field Athlete of the Year. The Bearcat won four gold medals and added a silver, placing first in the long jump, triple jump, 55 meters, and 200 meters and coming in second in a dramatic high jump event. Cardwell's win in the 200 meter dash may have been the most exciting of the weekend, as the standout bested St. Mary-of-the-Woods' Hope McGuire for gold by one hundredth of a second.

Athletes from around the conference will now turn their attention to the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships, held for the first time this year in Gainesville, Florida. Qualifying athletes will be announced in the coming week, with action in Alachua County, Florida set to begin on February 27 and continue through March 1.
