River States Players of the Week - April 7-13

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - The River States Conference is pleased to announce the Player of the Week honorees for the past week.

All awards represent contests played from Monday, April 7 through Sunday, April 13.

Men's Volleyball Players of the Week

Attacker of the Week
Daniel Bedoya, Rio Grande | Sr. - Opposite Hitter - Acacias, Colombia
The senior had a monster game in a big spot for Rio Grande, logging 27 kills to tie a program record in the RedStorm's win over Oakland City. Bedoya had 41 kills in matches against St. Mary-of-the-Woods and Oakland City, allowing the RedStorm to clinch a home match in the RSC Tournament.

Setter of the Week
Finn Heinemann, Georgetown | Sr. - Setter - Paderborn, Germany
Finn Heinemann racked up 101 assists in two matches, and added four aces in wins over Campbellsville and Cumberland to secure home-court advantage in the RSC Tournamenr for the Tigers. Entering conference tournament play, he's up to 865 assists on the season.

Defender of the Week
Maaz Khan, Rio Grande | Fr. - Libero - Peshawar, Pakistan
Khan led the RedStorm to a pair of key conference victories over SMWC and Oakland City. The freshman logged 31 digs in the two conference matches, averaging almost four digs per set. He also added another nine digs in a non-conference match against Jamestown.

Baseball Players of the Week

Player of the Week
Bryce Gamble, Brescia | Sr. - Catcher - Yorba Linda, California
Gamble put up some killer numbers this past week at the plate. He went a total of 7-16 at the plate for a .438 average and tallied 7 RBIs and 16 total bases. He hit safely in four of Brescia's five games on the week, logged three hits against Rio Grande on Monday and two hits against IU Kokomo on Saturday.

Pitcher of the Week
Robert Kelley, WVU Tech| Sr. - Pitcher - Vienna, Virginia
Kelley struck out 10 and gave up just one earned run against one of the best teams in the nation on Saturday. The righthander picked up the win against No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett, allowing just six baserunners across six innings in a 5-3 victory over the national powerhouse Grizzlies.

Softball Players of the Week

Player of the Week
Mallory Shelton, IU Columbus | So. - Catcher - Bloomfield, Indiana
Shelton has played a major role in getting the Crimson Pride in the hunt for their first trip to the RSC Tournament. The sophomore belted a pair of home runs and drove in eleven runs across eight games, with IU Columbus going 4-4. She reached base in seven of the eight games, with three multi-hit efforts.

Pitcher of the Week
Madi Ogden, Rio Grande | Sr. - Pitcher - Williamsburg, Ohio
Ogden was nearly untouchable in her three starts this week, all of which were complete games. The senior allowed just two runs on ten hits across 20 innings of work, picking up wins against Midway and IU Southeast. She struck out 22 hitters across those 20 innings, surrendering just two walks.

Tennis Players of the Week

Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Nelson Ramos, Oakland City | So. - Ecaudor
Ramos swept his three matches this week against Shawnee State and Georgetown. He won doubles matches against the Bears (6-0) and the Tigers (7-6), and added a 6-2, 6-2 singles win at the fifth flight against Georgetown.

Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Cristina Hurtado, Oakland City | Sr. - Chile
Senior Cristina Hurtado had a near perfect weekend, only losing 2 sets over all 4 of her matches. She swept her four singles sets at the top of the Oakland City lineup, and added a 6-0 doubles victory over Shawnee State and a 6-2 doubles triumph over Georgetown.

Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week

Male Track Athlete of the Week
Isaiah Lanoy, Shawnee State | So. - Lancaster, Ohio
Isaiah Lanoy officially knocked the door down to his second consecutive NAIA National Championship appearance in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, running a 9:25.38 to finish fourth out of 21 individuals -- as the duo led the Shawnee State men's track and field program Saturday at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.

Male Field Athlete of the Week 
Cole Sexton, Midway | Jr. - Catlettsburg, Kentucky
Cole recorded two firsts and a second-place finish in three different events across two meets. He placed first in the discus with a throw of 43.20 meters and second in the hammer throw at 44.73 meters at the Asbury Invitational, then added a win at the Norse Invitational with a shot put throw of 13.43 meters.

Female Track Athlete of the Week
Kyla Bradberry, SMWC | Fr. - Louisville, Kentucky
Bradberry won the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.18 seconds ? tying her fastest time of the season and also the fastest wind legal time in the River States Conference this season. Bradberry remained in the headlines by also picking up a victory in the 200 meter run with a time of 24.69 seconds to give her the fastest time this year in the River States Conference with a legal wind reading. 

Female Field Athlete of the Week
Sydney Duncan, IU Kokomo | So. - Anderson, Indiana
Duncan impressed once again against stout competition, this time at the prestigious Indiana Little State Championships. She won Shot Put by nearly three meters, and leads both the NAIA and River States Conference. Duncan is also ranked first in the RSC in Discus and sixth in the NAIA.

Golf Players of the Week

Male Player of the Week
Sam Firebaugh, IU East | Jr. - Zionsville, Indiana
Firebaugh fired a 5-under in the IUK Shootout over the weekend, winning by five strokes. He pulled away from the field in the first round, shooting a five-under 67 to take a four shot lead. His even par score in the final round was also the best round in the field.

Female Player of the Week
Liv Sanders, IU East | Sr. - Bedford, Indiana
Sanders finished first in the IUK Shootout, helping the Red Wolves win the team title as well. To top off her fantastic finish, she aced the 17th hole at Wildcat Creek on Day 2, helping the Red Wolves win by ten shots and moving her five shots clear of the field personally.
