MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - The River States Conference is pleased to announce the Player of the Week honorees for the past week.
All awards represent contests played from Monday, April 14 through Sunday, April 20.
Baseball Players of the Week
Player of the Week
Britten Robinson, Midway | Sr. - Infielder - Berea, Kentucky
Robinson Had a monster series at the plate against IU Columbus, recording nine RBIs, a .545 average and .909 slugging percentage. The senior had a two-run single to get Midway within 4-3 in game one of the series then had the go-ahead RBI in the seventh of a 6-5 win. He then hit a two-run home run to kick off a five-RBI performance in the second game of the series.
Pitcher of the Week
Robert Kelley, WVU Tech | Sr. - Pitcher - Vienna, Virginia
Kelley struck out ten, walked zero and gave up zero runs in a complete game victory against Brescia. The righthander came just one hit away from tossing a no-hitter against the Bearcats, helping the Golden Bears keep their postseason hopes alive entering the final week of the regular season.
Softball Players of the Week
Player of the Week
Gabby Adams, Rio Grande | Jr. - Infielder - Grove City, Ohio
Adams reached base in 12 of her 22 plate appearances this week, helping Rio Grande to a 5-1 record and allowing the RedStorm to clinch the RSC's regular season title. The junior enters this week having hit home runs in three consecutive games, and comes off a week with four multi-hit performances.
Pitcher of the Week
Madi Ogden, Rio Grande | Sr. - Pitcher - Williamsburg, Ohio
Ogden may have been the most dominant pitcher in the nation this past week, tossing 18 scoreless innings in Rio Grande wins over WVU Tech, Oakland City, and Brescia. The senior struck out 32 hitters over her 18 innings in the circle, and allowed just three hits and two walks. She tossed a no-hitter against Oakland City, striking out ten across seven innings.
Tennis Players of the Week
Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Keith Asplund, IU Southeast | Gr. - Jeffersonville, Indiana
Asplund went 4-0 on the week, earning two singles wins and two doubles victories at the top of the Grenadier lineup. The grad student won both of his singles matches in straight sets against Brescia and Franklin, and added wins of 7-6 and 6-3 in his two doubles matches.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Elana Hamby | Jr. - New Albany, Indiana
Hamby went a perfect 4-0 for IU Southeast, and helped the Grenadiers to team wins over Brescia and Franklin. The junior won both of her singles matches at the third flight, beating Brescia 6-3, 6-1 and Franklin 7-6, 6-4. She added a wins at both the top doubles flight against Franklin and the second doubles flight against Brescia.
Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week
Male Track Athlete of the Week
Carson Milner, Midway | So. - Walton, Kentucky
Milner beat an NCAA Division-I runner from Morehead State in the 800 then was part of a winning 4x400 relay team at the Morehead State Twilight. He was the top finisher in the 800 with a time of 1:56.77, then led Midway's winning relay team to a time of 3:30.87.
Male Field Athlete of the WeekÂ
Alan Austin, Shawnee State | So. - Piketon, Ohio
Austin scored 11 of Shawnee State's 35 meet points, winning the 28-competitor discus by nearly a meter-and-a-half (four feet, 10 inches) to score 10 points in his event victory. Austin then added a point in the shot put (three unattached throwers finished ahead of Austin) and finished in the top-third of the field in the shot put as Austin scored over a third of Shawnee State's team points by himself.
Female Track Athlete of the Week
Kyla Bradberry, SMWC | Fr. - Louisville, Kentucky
Kyla Bradberry continued her outstanding outdoor campaign with a 24.49 seconds showing in the women's 200 meter dash to win the event and hit the NAIA 'B' standard. She is the first Pomeroy to qualify for the NAIA Outdoor National Meet. She also improved her own school record in the event as well as the fastest time in the River States this season.
Female Field Athlete of the Week
Callee Riggle, SMWC | Fr. - Roachdale, Indiana
In the women's javelin throw, Callee Riggle recorded a mark of 33.56 meters (110-01) to improve upon her school record and finished second in the event. Riggle went on to a ninth place showing in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 34.83 meters (114-3)
Golf Players of the Week
Male Player of the Week
Bryson Beaver, WVU Tech | Jr. - Elkview, West Virginia
Bryson Beaver was the top golfer at the Harry Weinbrecht Invitational and helped lead Tech to the team victory at Elks CC. In the one day event, the junior shot a one-under 71 to finish first of the 41 golfers in attendance. His efforts also helped the Golden Bears finish first of the seven teams in attendance.
Female Player of the Week
Sophie Boyll, SMWC | Sr. - Terre Haute, Indiana
Sophie Boyll finished tied for 2nd with a pair of 82's at the Forest Hill Women's Collegiate to lead the Pomeroys to a win in the event. St. Mary-of-the-Woods finished first of the five teams at Forest Hills, and her score of 164 finished behind only the top player from Wooster College.
