River States Players of the Week - Dec. 22-Jan. 4

OXFORD, Ohio - The River States Conference is pleased to announce the Player of the Week honorees for the past two weeks.

All awards represent contests played from Monday, December 22 through Sunday, January 4.

Men's Basketball Players of the Week

Offensive Player of the Week
Alonzo Clawson-Smith, IU Kokomo | Fr. - Guard - Lafayette, Indiana
Freshman guard Alonzo Clawson-Smith returned to action in a major way last week, leading the team offensively with 59 total points during a perfect 3–0 stretch. After easing back in during a 65–50 win over Campbellsville, Clawson-Smith erupted for 22 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals in a victory over Cumberland, then capped the week with a career-high 30 points while adding seven assists and seven rebounds.

Defensive Player of the Week
Alonzo Clawson-Smith, IU Kokomo | Fr. - Guard - Lafayette, Indiana
Freshman Alonzo Clawson-Smith was a force on both ends of the floor last week, as the Lafayette Jefferson High School product made just as much of an impact defensively as he did offensively. He totaled nine steals and nine defensive rebounds on the week, helping the 11–3 Cougars extend their winning streak to five games.

Women's Basketball Players of the Week

Offensive Player of the Week
Taylor Farris, IU East | Jr. - Guard - Oxford, Ohio
Taylor Farris had a huge week for the Red Wolves. She averaged 23 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2.5 blocks in wins over IU Northwest and in conference play against WVU Tech. The junior guard scored 26 in the win over IU Northwest, then added 20 points and 13 rebounds to give the Red Wolves a conference win over WVU Tech.

Defensive Player of the Week
Sophia Kline, Rio Grande | Jr. - Forward - Sugar Grove, Ohio
The junior forward put up some eye-popping numbers - on both sides of the ball - in a trio of wins. The Sugar Grove native averaged 13.7 points, 14.7 rebounds, and 4.7 blocks in wins over Cornerstone, Spring Arbor, and Kentucky Christian, posting three straight double-doubles. The signature win of the week came against Spring Arbor, who entered the contest with a 12-1 record.
