OXFORD, Ohio - The River States Conference has issued a public reprimand to Shawnee State University women’s basketball coach DeWayne Burroughs for violating the conference’s conduct policy following the Bears’ home game against Rio Grande on February 3, 2025.

During a postgame interview on Shawnee State's official livestream, Burroughs publicly criticized both the conference assignor and the referees assigned to his contest. 

The River States Conference has communicated with Shawnee State University, and informed them that Burroughs' comments in a public forum were unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Per River States Conference by-laws, any further incidents during the remainder of the season will result in a more severe penalty.
