William Carey defeats Oakland City in NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship First Round

MOBILE, Ala. -- No. 13-seeded William Carey (Miss.) proved to be too much as they defeated 20th-seeded Oakland City (Ind.) on Tuesday (May 14) at the Mobile Tennis Center in the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship First Round.

With the win, the Crusaders improve to 15-8 as they advance to the second round, where they will take on No. 4-seed Xavier (La.) on Wednesday.

The Crusaders got off to a quick start, claiming the doubles point after winning at No. 2 and No. 3. Victoria Vieten and Isabella Lechuga Franco won 6-1 at No. 2 before the No. 3 team of Tiffany Chang and Lin Li Hsien also won 6-1.

In singles, Sunny Logan pushed the score to 2-0 following a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 before Lechuga Franco made it 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4. Li Hsien then clinched the sweep after posting a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles.

The Mighty Oaks, who won their second straight RSC Championship last month, finishes the season at 11-11 overall.
