River States Players of the Week - Nov. 4-10

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - The River States Conference is pleased to announce the Player of the Week honorees for the past week.

All awards represent contests played from Monday, November 4 through Sunday, November 10.

Women's Volleyball Players of the Week

Attacker of the Week
Jessica Swimm, IU East | Sr. - Pin - Hagerstown, Indiana
In the final match of the regular season, Swimm surpassed 2,000 career kills, leading IU East to the third seed in this week's River States Conference Tournament. The senior averaged 4.71 kills per set in the two wins this week, as IU East knocked off WVU Tech and Midway to close the regular season.

Setter of the Week
Makaela Lovely, Shawnee State | Jr. - Setter - Frankfort, Ohio
Lovely was terrific again in Shawnee State's late-season adjustment to a one-setter system this past week, nabbing a double-double with 38 assists and 16 digs against Midway and adding in 32 assists to go along with nine digs against Alice Lloyd (Ky.). Lovely has accumulated 7 double-doubles in 2024, with 6 of those coming in the last nine matches. 

Defender of the Week
Jordan Brooks | Sr. - Middle Blocker - Reynoldsburg, Ohio
Brooks helped to ensure an East Division championship for Rio Grande, the program's first. In matches against WVU Tech and Midway, the senior racked up nine total blocks, including seven in the division clincher against Midway, the RSC Match of the Week. Brooks was also sensational on attack in that match, logging 12 kills and a .611 attack percentage.

Men's Basketball Players of the Week

Defensive Player of the Week
AJ Belton, Shawnee State | Sr. - Forward - Indianapolis, Indiana
Belton's efficient play on both ends of the floor was critical, as the senior from Indianapolis, Ind. averaged 2.5 steals and a block per game in a 2-0 week for the Bears as a 6-5 forward primarily playing at the 4 and, at times, as a small 5. Belton also made the most of his opportunities offensively in the low post, knocking down 7 of his 12 shot attempts to nab a 58.3 percent shooting mark from the field, and posted a two-to-one assist-to-turnover ratio while posting five steals defensively to just two turnovers offensively for the week.

Offensive Player of the Week
Greg Jenkins, St. Mary-of-the-Woods | Sr. - Guard - Indianapolis, Indiana
Jenkins played a major role in the Pomeroys' sweep of the MVNU Homecoming Classic, leading SMWC to wins over Aquinas and host Mount Vernon Nazarene. The senior guard started the weekend with a 22-point, 10-rebound double-double, then added another double-double of 23 points and ten assists to beat the host Cougars.

Women's Basketball Players of the Week

Defensive Player of the Week
Anna Kiser, IU Kokomo | Gr. - Forward - Noblesville, Indiana
Kiser was a force in the paint for the Cougars in games against Holy Cross and Cleary, pulling down 21 rebounds. The graduate student rebounded a key late miss in IU Kokomo's Tuesday win over Holy Cross, then recorded 15 points, eight rebounds, and five steals in Saturday's contest against Cleary.

Offensive Player of the Week
Kaylee Darnell, Rio Grande | Sr. - Guard - Wheelersburg, Ohio
Darnell repeated as Offensive Player of the Week after leading Rio Grande to a key non-conference win over (RV) Milligan. The senior guard scored 27 points, dished out six assists, and pulled down five rebounds in the 86-77 victory. Darnell is currently one of just ten players in the nation with 24 or more points per game in three contests this season.
