MIDDLETOWN, Ohio- The Red Wolves of Indiana University East narrowly earned the title of women's golf favorites in the River States Conference, taking first place by just one point in the 2024 RSC Preseason Coaches' Poll. The poll, announced Tuesday by the River States Conference office, saw each of the conference's nine head coaches rank the other member schools in order of predicted finish.
IU East won the 2024 River States title by eight strokes, and picks up four of the nine first place votes to lead the way. Midway, led by the top returning finisher from the 2024 Championships, Maryssa Phillips, takes another three first place votes to finish just one point behind the Red Wolves. The St. Mary-of-the-Woods Pomeroys are the projection in third place, earning another first place vote. The top four is rounded out by the Cougars of IU Kokomo with 44 points.
Oakland City is in the middle of the conference at fifth place, with the Rio Grande RedStorm, holder of the final first place vote, checking in at sixth. The Brescia Bearcats are slated for seventh place, with the Bears of Shawnee State following in eighth. The Alice Lloyd Eagles round out the poll, earning 12 points.
The golf programs of the River States Conference will gather for the first time in just under four weeks, as the 2024 River States Fall Preview is contested at the Glade Springs Resort Golf Course September 30 and October 1. The teams will then return to Glade Springs in April for the 2025 River States Conference Championships, slated for April 27-29.
